Why shoot guns??
If you’ve watched my videos or read my posts, you may realize by now that for me, what I do is about more than just shooting guns at tiny targets and occasionally blowing stuff up out of helicopters. So why shoot? Because…
Shooting is a lifestyle, an art, a love.
For….
“Love…adds a precious seeing to the eye.” -Shakespeare
On the surface, shooting seems pretty straight forward: Use a simple machine to fling a projectile really fast at something and if you hit your intended target — its time for celebrations.
But shooting is so much more than that.
It is a way to focus and find your peaceful center.
A way to calm the busy chatter of your mind and hectic pace of modern life
A way to learn and cement valuable lessons into every area of your life
A way to tap into the pure joy of being in the moment and making your mark.
A way to just have fun and simply blow off steam from the demands of every day life.
And it is a way to grow to become something more than you were yesterday–much more.
Shooting is a way to all this and more because….
Shooting is a way to enhance every single aspect of your life.
And that’s what I seek to give to you when you spend time with me. I give you little pieces of the experience, so that you can go out and surround yourself with it as well, and make it your own.
This is a place where you can freely come and immerse yourself in the positive reality of shooting as it lives and thrives in you and me.
I am here for you if you have questions along the way. I want to provide what you need to max out the shooting experience and life benefits.
Why? Because I love it.
And when you love it, even a little part of it, the shooting art adds a precious seeing to the eye.
Your life is awakened to something new, and you will see the world differently.
Thank you for spending time and exploring the fun, challenge, and joy of shooting with me today ,
Kirsten

To be 100% honest with you , what caught my eye about you was your beauty. That being said i continued to watch your video’s because of your love for the sport.Your willingness to help and guide others through your experience and share your knowledge. You are simply an awesome person Kirsten and i thank you so much for sharing yourself with me.Shooting has not been a part of my life as much as has been of yours but my father and uncle’s taught me first how to shoot.I love to take my daughter out and do some plinking around since it gets her out of the house and into the woods with me :D,that time i share with her is what makes my world go around.
Kirsten Joy Weiss says
Thank you for your kind words, Ralph. Its really special when shooting is passed down through generations as a way to spend time and learn valuable skills and life lessons. Glad to see you experienced that then, and experience it now and share with your daughter.

Well spoken/written. Couldn’t agree more with this specific part; And it is a way to grow to become something more than you were yesterday–much more.
You also forgot to put “the smell of burnt powder” that the the cleaning solvent of Hoppes #9 ; )

I shoot becuase I love the challenge. I really like long range shooting 500-1000yards. I am also a mechanical engineer so I like the mechanics and the beauty of many firearms designs. I also get a kick out of modifting my guns to make them shoot better for me. Hitting my target is so much fun!! Happy Valentines!
Cameron says
The sense of camaraderie and acceptance on the range. The personal challenges and continuous learning, The friendly competitions between friends you’ve shot with before, or with someone you just met at a class. When people ask why I shoot, I tell them it’s my golf. Chasing around a little white ball with sticks is not my idea of a good time.
Thanks for what you do.
Kirsten Joy Weiss says
lol, the sport shooting is most like is golf — yet to me, shooting offers even more than golf can. More akin to martial arts. Thanks Cameron

Very well said, Kirsten. Shooting is so much more. A way to take you into a mindset of just you and that target. I enjoy shooting with airguns and powder burners. I love analyzing how I perform each shot and what I can do better next. You get focused into the activity so much that everything else disappears (nothing else to worry about but just hitting that bull). Thanks for sharing your insights.

You do such a good job of showing how much fun there is in shooting. A beautiful lady having fun with a gun! I am teaching my grand daughter to shoot. She really enjoys it and has her own rifle now. She is too young to have a Facebook account but she can go online to your website and see you videos. I enjoy shooting, and also enjoy watching others have fun at the sport too. To see the light in their eyes is incredible. Have fun, and shoot often.
Kirsten Joy Weiss says
That is awesome! I’m glad that having a website lets her see the videos even without Facebook. Tell her to keep up the good work, and if she has any questions just ask 🙂

I’m very proud of you and the stand you took regarding AGT. Thanks for letting us know.

I love shooting and your videos, because it gets me away from my problems and my work a day life. And I have the company of follow rifle shooters. Thank you Weiss!

Kirsten,
I was going to write down every reason you gave above as my personal reasons for shooting. I find the controlled breathing and focus required in shooting calms whatever else I was thinking of. I also have fond memories of my dad and I going to the range when I bought my first gun at age 16. Maybe a S&W 686 was a bit big for a first gun but it is a great memory of us going to the range and then coming home and giving our firearms a good cleaning….together.

Your videos are very entertaining, and informative. Shooting, both Competitive and Casual has always been a major interest of mine spanning 50 years. Small-bore and Hi-Power Rifle in my teens and twenties. Reloading and Gunsmithing were also a big part of it, and this lead me into a 40 year career as a Tool & Die maker. These activities are all very hands on Real World. I’m very happy with the way things turned out, and are still going on. I hope you inspire many of the young men and women of your generation.
Brian Teeple says
I shoot for all the reasons you listed above. I also have fond memories of going to the range with my dad and buying my first firearm. We used to shoot every week and then come home and clean our guns….together.

HI!
You’re videos are excellent ! What age did you start shooting ? I have a 7 year old daughter who seems to have a very mild interest in shooting and I’d like to gently nudge her in this direction. I think you are a very good role model for young people and I will be showing my baby girl your youtube videos .
sincerely

Kirsten Joy Weiss says
Thank you Jerry!
I first shot a gun at about 9 or 10 – with a 30-06 no less! But I only really started taking shooting more seriously when I was about 16. Those first days with marksmanship (even my little long bow my parents would let me play in the yard with) definitely built confidence. Good luck to her and you!

I just started shooting a few years ago…late bloomer:) Sixty years old and female, I find shooting so relaxing. Only time that I can concentrate without any interruptions…zen effect. Your a great role model for future females in the sport.

Thank you Kristen, for getting back with me.
Just love to hit them targets. My favorites are the Harrington Richards single shot break barrels. We’re talkin 100 yds. Though I ‘d maybe trade one for one of your guns. Think you’re a smart n pretty girl. Love to shoot with you some day. … You would maybe need to come to Minnesota, I may be open to other offers…
Very best wishes,
Larry

Hi Kirsten, I love the way you have so much fun when you shoot. I think I like the peeps you shot the best, so far. I buy my grand kids single shot 22 rifles around the age of 6 or 7. I take the out and we shoot eggs. They always love the way they explode. Please keep up what you are doing. I know that you make your dad proud. Keep coming up with new trick shots. If you like your guns in any way and the right to own your guns, you all should join the NRA. Thanks Rod. PS you are a great roll model for all kids and young people.

Kirsten-
Thank you so very much for sharing your many talents as an expert rifleperson and your love of shooting and marksmanship with the world.
I too share your enthusiasm and love of firearms and the challenge of hitting the target.
Marksmanship is both science and art and there is something quite Zen and philosophical about the entire shooting experience.
Shooting to me is very relaxing and therapeutic, along with being a discipline that is a lifelong journey to move from expert to constant practice and improvement.
Applying the basic and advanced fundamentals of Marksmanship as you well know requires much patience, concentration, perseverance, love, enthusiasm, and so much more.
I was practically born with a rifle in my hand.
I was given a Daisy BB rifle at the young age of 4.
I was also allowed to shoot my dad’s .22 caliber rifles at the same age.
Dad served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and also was a Police Officer, and so he taught me the basic fundamentals and respect for firearms as far back as I can remember.
I also followed in dad’s footsteps and served in the United States Marine Corps, and afterwards, I too became a Policeman (3rd generation)!
So I have learned very early on in my life to also love and respect firearms just as you do.
Again, I appreciate you sharing your love and admiration of the shooting arts with us, and I especially enjoy all of your fun and fascinating videos.
Keep on sharing with us and you have a huge and dedicated fan with much admiration for you!

I was wondering Kirsten if you had ever replied to my post from back in April 2016?
I’m still your number one fan and I look forward to hearing from you!

I would like to ask your advice.I shoot a Glock 23 Gen4 40mm or 9mm & a Walther PPS 2m 9mm. And I I would like to buy a rifle . I want to shoot long rang But not sure what I should get and at what caliber . I have only been shooting for the last year and hope to get into some competition . By the way I’m 63 years old and shoot mostly in Daytona FL area.
Thanks Bob C
Kirsten Joy Weiss says
It depends on the discipline you’d like to finally pursue in long range (800 yards and beyond). If it is more military, I’d check out Accuracy International. If it is more general competition or hunting, I would check out Best of the West out of Cody, Wyoming. If you are on the newsletter/email list, feel free to email me more questions. We can speak a little more in depth there.
Bob Cushman says
A long time ago like 40+ years I would shoot 22 Rifles to be exact. I was pretty good at it and I would like to up my game .I would like to be able to up grade what ever I get and shoot long range I’m just not sure where to start . What is a good one to start with and what caliber do you think is good for long shots . Also looking to maybe try getting into match shooting.

I haven’t watched all your videos yet but I plan to. Owning firearms is a part of my heritage and of our history as a Nation and it is unique to us and makes us a very strong Nation that is why it is always under attack don’t mistake the excuses for anything else because all of the anti-gun horse crap is nothing but lies they want us weak so they can cause us harm that is their true intentions make no mistake about it. For me my firearms are very necessary, I live in the woods I have to be able to defend myself, my family and live stock there is no such thing as assistance out here we are on our own and wouldn’t have it any other way, I’m a country boy, always been always will be. We don’t need any Government holding our hands out here, don’t want them, don’t need them for nothing. Now besides defense and hunting for food, I enjoy shooting when I can but ammo ain’t cheap and too important to just use up for fun so my 22 mag and 7.62 M91 and 380 auto I shoot sparingly because of that. I have molds for my muzzle loaders and they are a real kick to shoot but I have to drive my dog Kelly girl off a mile or so and leave her in the truck to shoot my 50 cal it scares her so bad she won’t come home or have nothing to do with me for a day or so, long story short I spend most of the time shooting my 44 cal 1858 Army revolver for all them reasons.
Darren Elmore says
What a beautiful gun! What kind of gun-stock is that? I gotta get one of those!
Chuck McCall says
Well I guess I’m never going to get a reply from Kirsten.
I’m so disappointed…
Would love to hear from you.
